Finding the Value in Magic Words
It’s easy to learn magic words like “please” and “thank you.” It’s harder to remember to use them. I believe if we teach the why we use them, it helps jog our memories to say them more. Children have the capacity to learn magic words as soon as they begin talking. And the way that usually happens is through mimicking others. So there is value in using magic words for everyone. Magic words may or may not get us what we want, but I think we can all agree that our opportunities increase by choosing to use them. Using these words benefits us in other ways as well. Think about how it makes someone feel when we speak kind words to them, and a smile magically appears on their face. Like a boomerang, that good feeling returns to us. Magic words also complete our sentences: “Pass the peas, please.” At Properly Polished we think there is so much value in using magic words, we devote an entire lesson to their importance. I hope your children can join us this summer to learn more about finding the value in using their best manners.
